Aiden Can Hear!

Aiden's procedure went very well yesterday! He was nervous going in, but he was a little trooper and did awesome! We had wonderful nurses that helped to keep him somewhat distracted and feel at ease. Here is a picture of him in pre-op:

He ended up only needing a tube in the left ear.  The doctor said he suctioned a lot of stuff out of the left and that everything went as expected.  He woke up much better than Olivia did.  He was groggy and calm.  I think a lot has to do with his age and being able to understand more, but I didn't want another episode like Olivia had. Here's a picture after he woke up and ate his Popsicle. You can definitely tell he is out of it.

His surgery was at 8:30 and we were on out way home by 9:20. We had to get his prescription ear drops and I got him a pop and crackers because he was complaining his tummy didn't feel good. We were home by shortly after 10, where he kept eating crackers and after about 10 minutes, perked right up. We watched the Minion Movie and then he was ready for lunch. Here he is, laying on the couch:

He has not complained of any pain except when he got the hiccups yesterday.  Then he said it felt a little sore, but felt better once he was done. He has to get drops twice a day for 7 days and he doesn't have to miss swimming.  The doctor said pools are fine. We had already cancelled his class for next week so he'll get to do a make-up the next week, which he'll like.

All in all, we are happy with the way yesterday went and he can hear much better.  He was yelling at the dog when he would bark to go out. He said it was so loud. He goes back in 3 weeks for a check-up.  I'm very curious to see the results of his hearing test.

Nothing much new to report

Since I'm trying to make this at least a weekly habit, I figured I'd better post something.  We had a pretty low key weekend.  Aiden had basketball Saturday morning.  He did awesome.  We was into it and even stole the ball from the other team.  He took it for the shot, but it didn't go in.  We are very proud of him and how far he's come. He only has 2 games left. We are hoping he plays like he did Saturday during the other 2 games.

We didn't leave the house yesterday since it was so cold. We let the kids pick what we had for lunch and diner for Valentine's Day.  We had hot dogs and peas for lunch (Livi's pick) and meatloaf and rice for dinner (Aiden's pick) and Oreo cake for dessert (Andy's pick).

We have swimming tomorrow, basketball practice on Wednesday and Aiden gets his tubes on Thursday, so we have a pretty busy week. Both kids are home with Andy today since he now gets all these days off.

Anyway, I will update later in the week on how everything went.

Weekend

We had a fun weekend.  Grandma Marple came on Friday and picked the kids up early from daycare. We went out for dinner at the Chinese buffet the kids love (and it seems they always make grandma go there when she comes). Uncle Eric, Busha and Grandpa came on Saturday morning and we all went to watch Aiden's basketball game. He's getting better with his shooting, but he's like me and not very aggressive. We came home and had Deluca's pizza and it was so good. It seems we get it about twice a year, so when we do, we all really enjoy it. Aiden has been wanting to watch Jaws and it was on while we were eating, so he got to watch the end. He liked it and Olivia also was watching it. Not sure it's a movie a 3 year old should watch, but it didn't phase her at all. She asked "if the shark eats that man, will he be mad?" We all had to laugh.

We took Aiden to the ENT on Wednesday for a follow up appointment and found out he has to have a tube in his left ear for sure and possibly his right as well.  The Doc said he will take a look at the right that day (Feb. 18th) and make the decision with us.  His hearing is very poor in his left ear and not quite where it should be in his right. We are very curious to see how much better he will be able to hear after this is done. I would imagine he will notice quite a change in being able to hear his teacher and coaches. We always thought he just wasn't paying attention, but it could be he really can't hear.

We bought our Valentine's this weekend so Aiden got his for school done and they will work on the ones for daycare this week.  Of course Aiden had to get the Star Wars ones and Livi had to get the Frozen ones. Aidens come with pencils and Livi's come with bracelets.  Just what all the boys at daycare will want :)

Now we are trying to decide on what kind of cake we want for Livi's birthday.  At first she wanted just Elsa, but now she wants all the Frozen characters. She says she loves every cake we look at and they are all her favorites. I guess I'll have to narrow it down and have her pick.

I guess that's all for now. Until next time.

Just Keep Swimming...

We had swim lessons last night and Aiden got moved up to the next class.  He's now in the Pro class. He was so excited and exhausted. Olivia has to become a little more comfortable with her rollover before she can be moved up.  We're hoping in a couple weeks.  Since Aiden got moved up, we got to get Culver's on the way home. Our rule is if you get moved up, we go to Culver's to celebrate (it's right across the street).  Aiden got a mint Oreo concrete mixer and Livi got cheese curds.  Here are a few pictures from swimming:

So it's been awhile...

I saw somebody else post to their blog after a few years and it made me think "maybe I should give it a try again".  If nothing else, this is a good way to write down different things that happen, so the kids can read it when they get older.

Aiden is currently in basketball.  He's definitely learning a lot and improving a bit each week. We are all looking forward to this spring when we can get outside and shoot some hoops.

Olivia was in gymnastics for a little while. We decided not to put her back in because 1. we weren't impressed with the teacher and 2. she would decide she didn't want to do something or get mad when she couldn't do something and she would throw a fit. We want to try her in dance in the fall. She loves music and shakes her booty around the house, so we'll see if we can make it work.
Both kids are in swimming at the Goldfish Swim School and they both love it.  Aiden is about to be moved up to the last class before the swim team, and he is so excited! Olivia is getting close to moving up to her next class as well. Olivia is learning a lot but she's just having fun, while Aiden's goal is to get to the swim team, and he works so hard to improve each class. It's amazing to see how far they both have come in just a years time.  Aiden went from not wanting to put his face in the water to almost finishing all of the classes Goldfish offers in a year. Olivia can swim the width of the pool now, just has to work on her rollovers.

We might have a hair dresser in the family in the near future.  Olivia decided she didn't want long hair anymore and used her safety scissors to give herself a haircut. As much as she loves Elsa right now, she has been watching Tangled and wanted to be like Rapunzel at the end of the movie.

I wanted to cry when I saw how short she got the top of her head, but instead I just laughed.  It's hair and it will grow back. We took her to Fantastic Sams to try to fix it the best they could. Here is the pic of her after her haircut and below is the pic after Fantastic Sams tried to fix it.

Aiden was Leader of the Month at his school for December. They had a little presentation for them, which was nice.  We then took him out for dinner to celebrate. This is him at the presentation with his principal Mrs. Mask.
This is Aiden with his teacher Mrs. Bryde in their safari classroom. She does a lot of neat things to help them get excited about learning!
We are looking into getting Olivia into preschool in the fall. I think it will do her good and now Kendon's Pre-k is all day, 4 days a week. This makes the logistics of getting her to school and picked back up much easier!

Aiden is looking forward to playing soccer again this spring and wants to try out for the Lansing Soccer Club.  He'll play with Parks & Rec again in the Spring and then I believe tryouts are in June for the soccer club.  If he makes it, then he'll play with them going forward.  It'll be a little more competitive which I think he'll enjoy.

So that's what we've been up to. I'll try to post as often as I can. Until next time...

Catch up in pictures

The above pics were from the weekend after Labor Day in Gagetown. It was the Fall Family Fun Days at the Octagon Barn. It was a beautiful day and Aiden had lots of fun.

These were from the same day as the Octagon Barn.  We finally got to meet my friend Andrea's baby, Logan. I think Aiden is ready for his baby brother or sister. He was really good with him.

These were from yesterday at Uncle John's Cider Mill. We had a big group and lots of fun.  Andy, Aiden and I, my mom and dad, Andy's mom, Eric, Uncle Charlie, Laura and her boys Colson and Ryan. The kids had fun in the corn maze and riding the rides. I know Aiden was asleep by 8 last night and slept until 6:45. After the cider mill we came back to the house for chili and lots of desserts. It was a good day!
